Surface relaxation and chemical exchange in hydrating cement pastes: a two-dimensional NMR relaxation study.
We report the first nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) two-dimensional correlation T(1) - T(2) and T(2) - T(2) measurements of hydrating cement pastes. A small but distinct cross peak in the two-dimensional relaxation spectrum provides the first direct evidence of chemical exchange of water between gel and capillary pores occurring over the first 14 days of hydration. A correlation of features al...
متن کاملSolvation dynamics: new insights into chemical reaction and relaxation processes
This paper examines the role of dynamic solvation in several chemical processes. The following three phenomena are discussed in detail: rotational diffusion of dipolar molecules in alcohol solvents, the solvation of photogenerated electrons in water and reaction rate constants of intramolecular charge transfer processes in polar solvents. In each case, information on the role of solvent motion ...
متن کاملA Neural Relaxation Technique for Chemical Graph Matching
We develop a binary relaxation scheme for graph matching in chemical databases. The technique works by iteratively pruning the list of matching possibilities for individual atoms based upon contextual information. Its key features include delayed decision-making, robustness to noise, and fast and eecient neural implementation. We illustrate the utility of the technique by comparing it with prob...
متن کاملChemical relaxation time of pions in hot hadronic matter
We calculate characteristic time scales for chemical equilibration of pions in hot hadronic matter using an effective chiral Lagrangian. We find that inelastic processes involving the vector and axial vector mesons reduce the chemical equilibration time by a factor of ∼ 10 compared to the result previously calculated in chiral perturbation theory. For a temperature of T ∼ 150MeV we obtain a che...
متن کاملRole of chemical potential in relaxation of faceted crystal structure.
Below the roughening transition, crystal surfaces have macroscopic plateaus, facets, whose evolution is driven by the microscale dynamics of steps. A long-standing puzzle was how to reconcile discrete effects in facet motion with fully continuum approaches. We propose a resolution of this issue via connecting, through a jump condition, the continuum-scale surface chemical potential away from th...
